What is the SMTP server for MSN?

MSN is a web portal provided by Microsoft. MSN also provides various internet services along with apps for windows and mobile devices. Microsoft network was initially a subscription-based dial-up connection which later became an ISP (internet service provider) named MSN dial-up. In order to deal with this issue, configure your MSN email settings with the details as mentioned below. It is applicable to account types with domain @Hotmail.com, @Msn.com, and Outlook.com

Incoming settings:-

  • username: emailaddress@outlook.com
  • password: enter your password
  • pop3 server: pop3.live.com
  • port: 995
  • security type: SSL/TLS
  • Delete email from server: never 
  • Encryption/Authentication: SSL is required
  • SPA (secure password authorization): off or uncheck this option

Outgoing Settings:-

SMTP Server: smtp.live.com
Port: 587 ( prefer port 587 instead of port 25 as many ISP are blocking the usage of port 25 especially while accessing Wi-Fi/ hotspot
Security Type: SSL or TLS/STARTTLS. Choose SSL for windows to live mail, outlook 2003, iPhone, outlook express, vista’s windows mail. Choose TLS for outlook 2007/2010 or above versions
Require Sign-in: YES
Username: same as username above
Password: same as above
